Commissioned by Kensington Palace for HRH Prince & Princess of Wales (1984). In 2008 Royal Academy critics’ view, Telegraph.co.uk, Mark Monahan wrote: Amalfi Lemon Ian Parker ”How on earth to single out just one work from the 1,000-plus on show? How indeed. There are so many superb works on show - Jeff Koonss lustrous steel egg, Michael Craig-Martins hypnotic LCD self-portrait, Ken Howards luminously Venetian rendering of the Campo San Giovanni e Paolo - but its a far smaller work that Im going to plump for. Ian Parkers tiny oil Amalfi Lemon strikes me as a near-perfect still-life. Exquisitely simple, perfectly executed (its almost photo-realist, though happily not quite), and its subject bathed in a subtly atmospheric light, it makes you feel you could reach through the canvas and pluck the fruit from the painting”
