MICHAEL FAIRCLOUGH NEAC


Born in Blackburn, Lancashire in 1940, Michael Fairclough graduated from the Kingston School of Art in 1961. He taught for a brief period at Belfast School of Art before going on to spend three years as a Rome Scholar in Engraving from 1964 to 1966. He worked for many years as a printmaker before returning to painting in 2000. He has had numerous solo shows including: Coram Gallery, London; Kent Institute, Maidstone; Alpha House Gallery, Sherbourne, Dorset; Berkeley Square Gallery, London and Courcoux and Courcoux, Stockbridge, Hants. He has won various prestigious awards, including the David Murray Award for Landscape at the Royal Academy of Arts and the Hunting Group Prize in 1987. He was elected Fellow of Printmakersí Council, 1981 and has been an elected member of the New English Art Club since 1995. Michael has work in numerous private and public collections including: Victoria & Albert Museum; Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle Museum; Bymans van Beunegen, Rotterdam; Adam Smith Institute; European Parliament and at the London School of Economics. His work has been reproduced in: Collecting Original Prints, Rosemary Simmons, Studio Vista; Complete Guide to Prints and Printmaking, Phaidon; Printmaking Today, critical review, August 1995 and Modern British Painters 1900- 1980, Alan Windsor.
