STEVEN LAWLER

Steven Lawler was born in 1968 and holds an MA Fine Art degree from Manchester Metropolitan University and a BA (hons) Fine Art Painting degree from the University of Central Lancashire. He is a realist painter, although much of the content of his figurative work stems as much from his imagination as it does from his models. His pictures often contain a suggestion of narrative symbolism, and he is especially interested in the way that light can bring a sense of drama to a subject. He largely eschews the twenty - first century in favour of an indefinite suggestion of recent history. He has exhibited widely, and exhibitions include: New Light Art Prize Exhibition, Bowes Museum, County Durham and Mercer Gallery, Harrogate, 2015 and 2016 where he was winner of the Visitors Choice Award; LAPADA Art and Antiques Fair, Berkeley Square, Mayfair, London with Northcote Gallery, Sept 2014; Palm Beach Fair - Miami - Feb 1st - 10th 2008 via Waterhouse and Dodd Gallery, Cork Street, London. Commissions include; double portrait commission of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa and of the late President Sheikh Zayed for Royal Offices via Waterhouse and Dodd gallery, Cork St London and portrait commission of Emma Kitchener Fellowes for Julian Fellowes. Emma is the wife of Julian Fellowes, Oscar winning screenwriter for Robert Altmans Gosford Park and creator of Downton Abbey.
